Uhuru could not believe her eyes. This Jerusalem had smelly streets, huge crowds, cow dung everywhere and shrieking horns. It gave her an headache until she realised where she was.

 

Uhuru was in the very center  of a religious experience, a daylong, everyday religious experience. This city was filled with passionate prayer and belief. Uhuru now knew that she was in the inner heart of Hinduism.

 

Varanasi is filled with different groups of Indians. They call this holy city on the Ganges the navel of the world, the city of light.

 

Uhuru was amazed at the hundreds of temples that were in the city.

“Wow, there are beautiful temples everywhere, in the middle of roads, around corners, huge temples, winding bazaars streets, small wayside alters,” Uhuru said in exhilaration.

 

“Ok, ok, I get it, there are beautiful temples everywhere,” said Paavai while laughing.

 

Uhuru quieten down and recognise the sacredness of the city. “All of India is here to worship, to pray and dance,” she said.

 

 “There is more beauty to see my sister,” Paavai responded.
